A 100-Mile Trifecta
The Wasatch 100 lottery gods looked upon me with kindness and favor yesterday, giving me another chance to run the sunny and steep ridges of the Utah's Wasatch Front. I've been itching to go back after my 2015 effort at the race ended early at mile 87 with a missed turn and a pulled hamstring, after leading the race much of the day. I've learned a thing or two since then and gained some valuable experience that will hopefully allow me to put together savvy veteran performance. But before I get to go for that little run in Utah, I'll be running in Wyoming's own Bighorn 100. I finished that one in 2015, but I wasn't really satisfied with my performance and it's left a sour taste in my mouth ever since. Bighorn is as close as I've got to a local 100-mile race, so it will be special to see lot's of familiar faces and scamper through fields of Wyoming wild flowers. However, the 2018 100-mile trifecta kicks off this week in Washington at Orcas Island 100. It's been a challenging, but mostly pleasant, winter of training and grateful to be healthy and tapering. It would be tough to have a great season without a positive start in the San Juan Islands, so hopefully my early season legs and brains have what it takes to run a smooth race through Orcas Island's deep green forests. Thanks for following along in 2018, and I certainly appreciate all the good vibes and support; I'll certainly take all the help I can get to make it through racing 300-miles and 70,000 feet of climbing.Orcas Island 100 — February 9-10Bighorn 100 — June 15-16Wasatch 100 — September 7-8
